Managing File Formats

By default, all the files you export as CSV or Excel out of Uphance have a specific format. By format, we mean the set of predefined columns each file comes with.

By way of illustration, here's what the Daily Cogs CSV export file looks like:

As you can see, it has 10 columns titled company, brand, channel, etc. What if you don't want to have, say, the daily_cogs_number column? Perhaps you want to have it but wish to call it something else.

Or, what if you wish to add an extra column to the file -- maybe two more columns.

Well, the good news is that you can do all that from the file format settings. And you aren't just limited to the daily cogs file - you can edit any file you want, and even add a new one altogether.

To edit file format (or create a new one), open the file format settings, select the file and edit.

In the example above, we edited the Daily Cogs CSV file by disabling the brand column and also changing the company and sales amount column headers, after which we exported the file.

Do bear in mind that you aren't limited only to the daily cogs file - you can modify virtually any file you deem fit.

Note: Most files in Uphance are exported as CSV or Excel. If you edit/modify, say, the CSV version of the file, the change won't apply to the Excel version - you will need to also modify it separately.

In the example we made above, we only modified the CSV version of the daily cogs file. That change didn't apply to the Excel version.

Creating a Custom File Format

Besides editing existing files, you also have the option of creating a new one from scratch. For example, you might want to create a custom pick ticket file for a particular warehouse.

When creating a file, you need to specify the data source, type, whether it will include a header row or not, the columns it will contain and what you wish to name each column header.
