Besides helping you manage your materials, Uphance also makes it easy to associate your products with these materials.

This allows for accurate product costing. Plus, it enables you to provide your manufacturer with an accurate list of materials needed to produce your items.

Adding Materials

You can only associate your products with materials. It then follows you need to add a material before attempting to associate it with a product.

We recommend you read this document to understand how to correctly add materials.

You also have the option of creating material categories. For example, you can have a Finishes category for buttons, zippers, etc., and Fabric for cotton, polyester, etc.

To add a material category, navigate to Settings >> Materials Categories. Then add the material category.

Note: You can always edit/delete a material category after you've added it.

How to Assign a Product to a Material

After adding a material, you are now ready to link it to a product. To do that, navigate to Product Information >> Products. Locate the specific product you want to assign a material to, open it, and click the Production tab. Then scroll down to the Materials/Services section of the page.

Here are a few things to note before assigning a product to a material:

1. You can assign materials to products based on Product Color or Product Color & Sizes

If you enable Product Color only, it means materials will only be added to the color variants of the product.

But if you enable Product Color & Size using the toggle button, you will notice that you also have the option of adding materials based on a product's size and color.

2. Adding a material to the Common field will apply it to all your product variants, regardless of their sizes.
